How to make the most of your lunch break in Downtown Indy

Since when did lunch become chowing down over the keyboard? Here’s to reclaiming the middle of the day and turning it into your own downtown adventure in the Circle City.

1: Learn something new.

Pop into one of the many museums found in the square mile and catch a new exhibit. From historic homes to a percussive arts museum, here’s to experiencing something new in 60 minutes or less!

3: Create a lunch break bucket list.

4: Hit your 10k+ steps for the day and grab some fresh air.

Urban hiking: it’s a thing, you guys. Here’s to taking advantage of all of the beautiful trails in downtown Indy and hitting the sidewalk. Complete the Canal Walk loop and you’ve walked three miles. 5: Pack a picnic and catch one of the free 250 lunchtime concerts a year at Indianapolis Artsgarden.

The convenient location in the heart of downtown makes it easy to reach and it doesn’t hurt that it’s connected to downtown’s skywalk system.

6: Catch up on your reading.

Dust off your library card and check out a book at the stunning Central Library. Snag a good read and head to the top floor for one of the best views of downtown! Here’s another idea: support a local bookstore like Indy Reads, on Mass Ave. Best part? All profits go to adult literacy programs.

7: Celebrate Indy’s patriotic spirit at a monument or memorial.

There is no city in the country that maintains more acreage honoring veterans than Indianapolis. Fun fact: Indy is second only to Washington D. C. in the number of monuments dedicated to veterans. Have you visited Lady Victory up close on Monument Circle (only 331 steps or an elevator ride away! ). Don’t miss the shrine room at the Indiana War Memorial. 8: Create-your-own progressive lunch tour at Indianapolis City Market with a catacombs tour.

Who says you have to pick one stand? Bring on the tamales, fresh pressed juice, lattes and soups. Have a few coworkers along for the ride? Set up a budget and have everyone grab food to share! 9: Try a new fitness class.

Downtown’s fitness studio options have exploded in the last year. From hot pilates to boot camp classes, you can mix up your routine and try something new!

10: Throw in the towel and get a pedicure.
