Hearst, a Uruguay native who is now based in New York City, is known for her minimalist aesthetic, using only the best quality fabrics. Her knowledge of the materials she works with and precise eye lead to pieces with timeless appeal – think cotton blouses, simple sweaters, and tailored suits. So, as no surprise, when she launched the Nina Bag in 2016, it quickly accumulated a cult-following and 100 names-long waiting list.
“I did a limited edition of 20 bags; I didn’t do it for commerce, I just wanted to launch it. And I gave them to friends of mine and to women I work with,” she told Vogue of her label’s first-ever handbag. “We had retail stores asking for it, and I said, ‘No, we’re going to keep it. And we’re not going to sell them online, either.” In fact, to get your hands on one, you had to email the brand with your request.
Now, Hearst has expanded her handbag collection to consist of 16 unique styles, including the Demi bag (a smaller version of the Nina bag) carried by Markle. If you want one for yourself, you can submit a request through her website, or for a limited time, shop the collection on Net-a-Porter.
