Everything you need to know about the Hunger Games prequel

The cover was revealed for the first time on Good Morning America and features the gold mockingjay with a snake wrapped around it, with a background of green and black circles. A whopping 2. 5 million copies will be sent out on the first printing run, set to be a hit.

The rumours are true! A decade after The Hunger Games trilogy came to an end, a prequel by best-selling author Suzanne Collins is on it’s way.

We have a name, a book cover and a release date everyone. The prequel will be called The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and will be released on 19 May 2020 by Scholastic.

The latest novel will be set 64 years before the beginning of the trilogy, which were each adapted into the big screen with the lead heroine Katniss Evergreen played by Jennifer Lawrence. The story will follow the early days of Panem hosting the Hunger Games where children from the districts are plucked via a lottery system to compete in a battle of survival and forced to fight and kill each other for entertainment purposes.

The author revealed in a statement that, “With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival. ”

Collins added: “The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days – as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet – provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity. ”

The Hunger Games trilogy films fetched nearly $3 billion (£2. 4 billion) at the box office. The last of the four franchise films ended in 2015 with Mockingjay – Part Two starring Lawrence alongside Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks and Stanley Tucci.

If you’re wondering whether this one will hit the big screen too, you’ll have to wait a little longer as Lionsgate have yet to confirm whether they’ve bought the rights or not. However, chairman Joe Drake said: “We’ve been communicating with Collins during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie. ”

Sounds pretty promising, right? The odds are in our favour!
