Everything you can expect from Sunday’s 2020 VMA awards

This year, the show is honouring “Everyday Heroes: Frontline Medical Workers” and will celebrate the best performances from the frontline medical workers who kept our spirits up during the pandemic.

The MTV Video Music Awards is always a must-watch, but this year, we expect even more of us will be tuning in to see how things go, thanks to this year’s unexpected guest: the coronavirus pandemic. While we never thought we’d see categories like ‘Best Music Video From Home’ and ‘Best Quarantine Performance,’ if 2020 has taught us anything: it’s to roll with the punches.

While previous awards shows decided to go virtual, the MTV VMAs 2020 is set to be the first major one to be broadcast live – and we’re so excited about it. The VMAs will be held on Sunday 30th August in several locations around New York and can be watched live on MTV, streamed on mtv. com or via the MTV app. Abiding by health and safety guidelines, the performances will be held outside with limited or no audiences.

As usual, there will be a pre-show, hosted by MTV’s Nessa Diab and Jamila Mustafa. Expect to see performances from the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Chloe x Halle, Jack Harlow, Tate McRae, and Machine Gun Kelly featuring Travis Barker and Blackbear, as well as the usual celebrity interviews.

Hosted by the legendary Keke Palmer, we’re looking forward to seeing BTS with their first VMA performance and TV debut of their English-language single “Dynamite. ” Alongside the K-Pop Kings, we’ll also be treated to Miley Cyrus’ debut performance of her new single “Midnight Sky” as well as Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s rendition of everyone’s favourite pop anthem “Rain on Me. ” Black Eyed Peas, CNCO, The Weeknd, Da Baby, Doja Cat and Maluma will also be making appearances.

If you’re watching from the UK, you can see the show live on MTV or MTV. com on Monday, 31 August from 1am – 4am.
