More than just a pretty face, Miranda was one of the OG wellness warriors, with a passion for organic skincare that drove her to create her own range, Kora Organics.
Noni juice, gua shas, amethyst geods, and palo santo – these are the items that make up the shelfie of Australian supermodel, Miranda Kerr.
As the brand reaches its ten-year milestone, a pregnant Miranda was in London to celebrate its launch into Space NK. Here, she chats to GLAMOUR about the new ingredients that will transform your skin, the crystals she swears by and how she’s coping with morning sickness.
Get ready for Kahai oil, Kakadu plum and tomato fruit…
Having already introduced us to the amazing benefits of noni juice, we were keen to see what new ingredients Miranda has been coveting lately.
“Research and development is one of my favourite aspects of the business”, she says. “I love seeking out new innovative ingredients and formulations that push the boundaries in the certified organic skincare space and deliver performance and results that can be proven by clinical.”
One which caught our attention was ‘kahai oil’. Recently, people have been hailing bakuchiol as the new retinol, but it could have some competition…
“Kahai Oil is a natural wonder oil that contains natural retinoids (retinol) to improve elasticity and smooth out fine lines and crow’s feet”, says Miranda.
Other ingredients Miranda and her team are working with include…
- Silver Ear Mushroom: Draws and retains moisture deep into your skin for a plumper looking complexion.
- Turmeric Powder: Helps to brighten and even the skin tone, relieves redness and calm sensitive skin.
- Kakadu Plum: A potent source of vitamin C that helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and boost radiance and luminosity.
- Coffee Seed Oil: had an ability to awaken the skin and reduce puffiness while revitalising the skins circulatory system.
- Tomato Fruit: A rich extract known to brighten the skin around the eye and reduce the appearance of redness and inflammation.
Gua shas and reiki treatments are the new jade rollers
Facial massage is something Miranda tries to do daily, but the trendy jade roller is not her tool of choice.
“After I cleanse, mist (or tone) and moisturise, I like to give myself a 5-minute gua sha facial massage with my Rose Quartz Heart Facial Sculptor and Noni Glow Face Oil (£22-60).”
“Using the Rose Quartz Heart, I gently massage my face and neck in an upward and outward motion starting from the neck area, moving along to my chin, cheeks and around to the eye area. The sculptor helps the oil absorb deeper into the skin while also increasing blood flow and promoting collagen production.”
Miranda says she’ll sometimes keep her rose quartz heart in the fridge, to enhance its ability to depuff and promote blood circulation.
“I also love incorporating Reiki into my facials – it helps me feel super relaxed, which is important for the muscles in your face. I like to start my treatment by burning Palo Santo before to help clear the space and set the tone for the healing ritual.”
Reiki is a gentle treatment that works on different levels; the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual to help balance the mind and body.
“One of the biggest benefits I find is the reduction of stress. After a Reiki treatment, I sleep better, and it’s a great way to release tension, help clear emotional blockages and impart a wonderful sense of relaxation.”
Amethyst geodes, rose quartz and clear quartz provide constant positive energy
Miranda’s love for rose quartz doesn’t stop with skincare, as she admits it’s one of her favourite crystals, and has them spread around her home.
“It’s said to be the stone of unconditional love”, she says. “Rose Quartz can open you up to the beauty and love in everything around you, and enhances your appreciation of colours, sounds, art, music and poetry. It brings you self-confidence, self-worth and creativity.”
She believes so much in the power of the stone, it’s even involved in the manufacturing of Kora Organics products. “We have created a unique process in which the formulations of all our products are filtered through rose quartz crystals. By filtering the products through rose quartz, we hope to infuse a vibration of love into the products and on to our customers.”
As for the rest of her crystal collection, Miranda confides that it’s mostly made up of amethyst geodes and clear quartz stones. “Amethyst is a meditative and calming stone which works in the emotional, spiritual, and physical planes to provide calm, balance, patience, and peace. And clear quartz is known as the “master healer” and can amplify energy and thought. It draws off negative energy and can neutralise background radiation. It balances and revitalises the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual planes.”
“There’s constant positive energy around my home and whenever people arrive they comment on how serene and relaxed they feel.”
Food is the key to fighting morning sickness
Those well acquainted with the inside of their toilet bowl during the first trimester will find comfort in knowing even supermodels suffer morning sickness.
Miranda is currently pregnant with baby number three, and says that when it comes to fighting nausea, the answer is food. But unfortunately McDonald’s isn’t on the menu…
“For me, I find eating an apple helps settle my stomach and continually snacking on a selection of fresh fruit, crackers and nuts”, she says. “I’ve also found it helpful to have hot water with fennel seeds and honey.”
Makeup must-haves, leech facials and a surprising scalp treatment
With sleep more of a luxury than a necessity at the moment, Miranda’s must-have makeup product is unsurprising, concealer.
“I use RMS Beauty Un Cover-up Concealer in 22 (£34). RMS is my go-to natural makeup. I like to mix a few drops of Noni Glow Face Oil into the RMS pot and apply all over my face with a makeup brush.” She’ll then finish with a slick of Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara (£23).
As for keeping her hair shiny and healthy, she let us in on a little secret. “I apply the Noni Glow Body Oil (£52) as a scalp treatment once a week and then shampoo and condition it as normal” – finally a celebrity that doesn’t just say ‘coconut oil’.
And while she owes her glowing skin to her own brand genius, it could also be down to that one time she tried a leech facial.
“They put the leeches underneath the jawline to increase blood flow and circulation, which enhances the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to cells making them healthier and more efficient. It also promotes lymphatic drainage to help eliminate toxins.”
Hell, if it’s good enough for Miranda, maybe we’ll give bloodsuckers a go.
