Ed, 29, and Cherry, 28, managed to keep their baby news a secret over lockdown, and it was only revealed at the beginning of August that they we couple were expecting, with a fast-approaching due date of late summer.
Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn have announced the birth of their daughter.
In an Instagram post, showing a baby blanket and a pair of tiny booties, Ed wrote:
‘Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you… Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran. We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x. ’
The singer had previously announced that he was taking a break from music, back in December 2019, saying that he’ll be back with ‘some new music’ when he’s ‘lived a little more to actually have something to write about’. We’re guessing having a baby might be enough inspo.
The couple are known for keeping their personal life very private. After meeting at school and reconnecting later in life (sounds like an Ed Sheeran song, right? ), they have now been together five years, with Ed confirming last summer that he and Cherry had wed in a private ceremony in January 2019. He had previously announced their engagement in an Instagram snap from 2018 with the caption: ‘Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx’.
Well, we’re chuffed for Ed, Cherry and baby Lyra, and we’re sure their cats are, too.
