This blogger’s 3 hacks for extending time between hair washes are so simple but we’re listening

While we could stop washing our hair entirely and let mother nature do her work, there is another way to make the hair washing routine more manageable and US blogger Jess Keys of The Golden Girl has the answers.

If there was one thing you could remove from your morning routine (or evening, whichever way you do it) what would it be? The tedious faff of washing, conditioning then combing and finally blow-drying your hair? Us too.

She recently shared her hair washing wisdom with The Everygirl and we can’t actually believe we didn’t think of these hacks for extending time between out hair washes before. Here are Jess’s top three tricks to make your clean hair last longer…

Blow-dry just the roots

This trick apparently makes all the difference to the longevity of your blowdry. According to Keys, “When you wash your hair, let your hair air dry as much as possible, but, if you hit the roots (just the roots, because, you know, hair dryer = damage) with the blow-drier for a hot second and get your roots dry (we’re talking, like, just the top half-inch to inch of your hair) then it REALLY helps to combat grease. This really makes an incredible difference in setting your hair up to be less greasy.”

Always wear a shower cap if you’re not washing your hair in the shower or bath

If you’ve always skipped or ignored a shower cap, you might want to rethink. Keys says, “I don’t know why I just dismissed the idea of using a shower cap for the first 29-odd years of life. This really helps combat frizz, because even if my hair doesn’t get wet in the shower, it does get crazy from the steam.”

Dry shampoo before bed not just in the morning

If, like us, you normally spritz on the dry shampoo just before you leave the house, it’s worth being a bit more organised. Keys says that, “where dry shampoo truly shines is in its preventative effects – it’s great to spray on before you go to bed! You’ll wake up with more voluminous bedhead and it’s amazing.”

So, there you have it. Easy ways to make your hair washes last longer at no expense. Genius. If not, here are the best dry shampoos on the market.
