With their dreamy campaign imagery and influencer-filled vacation posts, it’s hard not to be drawn in by the alluring marketing of high-end swim brands. But every now and then, you can find something nearly as chic that’s way more affordable.
The day before I had to leave for Coachella, I found myself inside the Uniqlo at the Beverly Center hoping to buy a few last-minute essentials. I picked up some socks, a T-shirt and a bikini that I didn’t even try on, figuring I’d return it if it didn’t work.
As it turns out, this was a rare impulse buy that went right, after I removed the bra cup inserts (the worst! ), that is. When I put it on, I was obsessed: The high-neck halter silhouette was one I’d never gravitated towards before, but it was super flattering, and something about the cut of the bikini was as well – it’s also versatile and would mix well with any other bikini top in my collection.
I have enough swimsuits in my rotation at this point – and will likely pick up another before the season’s over – that I hope this one will be able to last a few years despite the fact that it’s mass produced and may not be of the best quality. It’s on sale right now, too.
