Designers Want You Coated in Shimmery, Holographic Iridescence for Fall

Were now on the very last stretch of the Fall 2018 collections, and so far, weve discussed a slew of very different, hyper-specific trends, like Cher Horowitz-approved plaid, midi- and maxi-length puffers and crazy-bright animal prints.

And now, were talking another new pearly, glossy, shimmery color story — holographic, iridescent fabrics — thats been making a prominent appearance all season long.

It started way back when in New York, with designers like Tom Ford, Jeremy Scott, Sies Marjan, Tibi and Maryam Nassir Zadeh cloaking everything from eveningwear to trench coats and slim-fitting suits to leggings in bubbly shades of mints, peaches and rainbow-flecked whites. Later, in London, designers like Emilia Wickstead and Arthur Arbesser incorporated the reflective fabrics onto the likes of trousers, slick tea dresses and statement jackets, including some especially delicious outerwear at Osman.

The trend went on to take Milan, too, popping up across Gucci, Moschino and Roberto Cavalli, among others — but no where has it been more conspicuous than in Paris, where its already cropped up at Lanvin, Off-White, Maison Margiela (with a matching lip) and, of course, the high-wattage, high-gloss 80s circuit at Balmain.

Designers, it seems, havent tired of the highlighter-heavy unicorn craze in which the fashion and beauty industries have been entrenched. But with clothes this fun, why would they want to?
