Getting kids to do, well, anything is a struggle. I’ve had fights on the importance of wearing shoes on the right feet, tears over not wanting to wear shorts in public, full-on tantrums when trying to put my kids in jackets and warm hats in the winter.
So, trying to get them to wear a face mask that they aren’t supposed to touch? Yeah, that’s a job for SuperMom.
As your kids head back to school or your family starts going on more socially distanced errands together, you can practice getting your kids to wear masks at home. The CDC recommends everyone 2 years old and older to wear a face mask made with two or more layers of washable, breathable fabric.
However, it’s important that you wash these after every wear – and don’t let them get piled up in the backseat of your car with discarded toys and half-eaten food.
One minute, I’m minding my own business, browsing the aisles of Target, and the next, I look down and see my 3-year-old son throw his face mask to the ground from his spot in the cart. “I don’t want to wear it,” he complains.
For those times when you’re in a pinch and you know you’re not going to be able to wash your cloth masks every day, stock up on disposable masks for your kids instead. These come in a variety of fun, colorful patterns, so your kids will (hopefully!) be happy enough wearing them. And if they throw them on the floor of a public space during a global pandemic? Just pull a clean one out of your purse and throw the other one away. Ahead, find some of our favorite cute disposable masks available in kid sizes.
