Wondering why her name sounds familiar? Maye has been modeling for five decades and graced the covers of New York Magazine and Elle Canada. She got a jump-start on her modeling career in 1969, when she was named a finalist in the Miss South Africa contest. Since then, she appeared in Beyonce’s “Haunted” music video and landed campaigns for brands like Target and Clinique. She even graced the runway during the Spring 2018 Concept Korea show.
The Covergirl family is becoming more diverse by the day as they continue to break boundaries and redefine beauty. Not only did they just name Insecure actress Issa Rae and kitchen connoisseur, (and wife of Golden State Warriors point guard), Ayesha Curry as new brand ambassadors, but there’s a new face joining the family: model Maye Musk.
Maye is more than just a pretty face, too. In fact, she’s a dietitian and nutritionist who holds two masters degrees–oh, and she’s the mother of Tesla mogul, Elon Musk.
“With wearing makeup a part of my job as a model, one might think I’d get tired of it, but I absolutely love it. I’ve had the benefit of working with a lot of wonderful artists through the years, and it’s a fascinating process: you start as a blank canvas and then a transformation occurs, but there’s always a very real and honest piece of me there, too,” says Musk.
“I think that’s one thing that’s kept me working in this industry for so long, my interest in self-representation. It’s a big part of my role as a dietitian, too – helping people feel happy, healthy and confident exactly as they are. And recently, I’ve become so much more engaged in social media, particularly Instagram, which is yet another way I can show people the many different sides of myself.”
