The model and actor attended Comic-Con in San Diego, CA, on Saturday for her role as Vignette Stonemoss in , a new Amazon TV series set in a Victorian-era fantasy world where both humans coexist with mythological creatures.
For such an unique and interesting role, Delevingne brought an equally as unique and interesting beauty look to the conference.
Cara Delevingne just gave us a lesson in how to wear denim-blue eyeliner and a topknot, giving a new meaning to business casual.
made a case for denim liner and has well and truly won us over. For the conference, it appears Synnott used Dior Diorshow On Stage Liner in Matte Blue ($31) – a striking deep-cobalt color – to create graphic wings (Synnott didn’t specify, but she tagged the brand, and Delevingne is an ambassador).
Synnott paired the blue liner with a neutral pinky-beige lip, a touch of rosy blush, and lots and lots of mascara, and then of course, let Delevingne’s enviable eyebrows frame the entire look. The blue liner already brings out the blue of Delevingne’s eyes, but Synnott also added a hint of shimmer in the inner corners of the eyes to make them sparkle even more.
This is a great example of how to subtly incorporate color into your everyday makeup routine. You actually have to look quite closely to see that Delevingne’s liner isn’t black or gray. But if you’re still not quite ready to wear colorful eyeliner, another way of adding a touch of something is to stack a colored liner on top of black along your top lashes. The black will add definition and define your eyes as usual, while the color will just be a tiny accent – think of it like the trim on a shirt or a pair of bright earrings worn with an all-white or black outfit.
The same “business but make it edgy” approach was used for Delevingne’s hair, too. took a regular topknot and twisted it in a way that left a piece of hair swept to one side, practically defying gravity thanks to Biolage Freeze Fix Humidity Resistant Hairspray (which sadly isn’t available in the UK). The hairstyle was the definition of business in the front, party in the back because, it turns out, this wasn’t just a topknot. At the back of the head, the hair was sectioned into a low bun that was then twisted into itself, making for an interesting element that we very nearly missed altogether.
So the next time you’re looking to jazz up your regular weekday routine, take your cue from Delevingne’s glam team, and maybe add a few little surprising twists to your hair and/or makeup – whether that’s letting a hit of color peek out from behind your lashes or adding an unexpected twist (literally) to the back of your hair.
