Ascot’s strict dress code welcomes jumpsuits

Racing season is upon us and if you don’t have the time to horse around with your wardrobe planning (excuse the pun), we have all the style inspo you need right here.

Ascot Racecourse has unveiled its annual Royal Ascot Style Guide, and it will give you all the sartorial inspiration for the season.

As the pinnacle of racing season, Royal Ascot (which takes place between 19-23rd June) sees the creme de la creme of fashionistas descend on the racecourse to showcase their style prowess.

Featured looks this year include some major designs from Zimmerman, Roksanda Ilincic, Emilia Wickstead, Suzannah and Mother of Pearl (talk about a line-up! ).

So, if you’re planning on attending the event of the summer, read over the below style rules to ensure you look on point…

THE STYLE RULES

• Dresses and skirts should be of modest length, falling just above the knee or longer.

• Dresses and tops should have straps of one inch or greater.

• Jackets and pashminas may be worn but dresses and tops underneath should still comply with the Royal Enclosure dress code.

• Trouser suits are welcome. They should be of full length to the ankle and of matching material and colour.

• Jumpsuits are welcome. They should be of full-length to the ankle, with regulations matching that for dresses.

• Hats should be worn; however a headpiece which has a solid base of 4 inches (10cm) or more in diameter is acceptable as an alternative to a hat.

• Strapless, off-the-shoulder, halter neck and spaghetti straps are not permitted.

• Midriffs must be covered.

• Fascinators are not permitted; neither are headpieces which do not have a solid base covering a sufficient area of the head (4 inches/10cm).

The Royal Ascot Style Guide is well-known for predicting key trends for the summer season so get your pens at the ready as you peruse these looks from the official Ascot style guide…
