An artist gave your favourite, Hollywood icons cosmetic, surgery makeovers

Cosmetic surgery has boomed in recent years, no less thanks to stars like Kylie Jenner speaking openly about their penchant for treatments and high street retailers like Superdrug offering it.

Whether or not you’re a tweakment aficionado, it’s always intriguing to see the weird and wondrous offerings of the cosmetics industry. This year, we’ve seen the rise of injectable skincare with a new treatment called Profhilo, that has impressed with its skin-plumping abilities, as well as strategic Botox for a totally natural and undetectable look and even “Blowtox”, the injectable treatment that will make your blow dry last longer.

Like it or loathe it, non-surgical cosmetic procedures are becoming commonplace and are now so sophisticated, that they show no sign of abating. In fact, 2019 will see the rise of a plethora of weird and wonderful treatments.

But one Instagram artist decided to explore what the Hollywood icons of years gone by would look like complete with Botox, face fillers, and a few other choice nips and tucks – and the results are astounding.

Mat Maitland has given the likes of Princess Diana and Audrey Hepburn a modern-day nip and tuck makeover. Speaking to PAPER Magazine about his series, he said: “Some people might look at this series and believe that I am making a hard commentary on cosmetic procedures. This isn’t the case at all. I’ve always been fascinated by people who push beauty to the extreme. One of my heroes, Michael Jackson, explored the idea of transformation early on in his career.

“Cosmetic approaches to beauty were previously restricted to celebrities and the mega wealthy but these have now become more attainable. Everywhere you look there is evidence of these contemporary ideals of beauty. You can observe the new normal across the world. This is what made me think about identity in our contemporary world. I started to imagine some of the most idolized stars embracing cosmetic procedures and trends if they were still alive today. Celebrities of the past altering their iconic looks to fit in with today’s more clone-like ideals. ”

What do you make of the icons’ bold new looks?
