Amazon Prime Creates “Boxtumes” For the Ultimate DIY Mom

What is it with kids and boxes? They often enjoying playing with them more than with what came inside the stiff carboard packaging. That’s one reason why Amazon Prime teamed up with three professional crafters this year to bring you the “boxtume” just in time for Halloween.

Each of these DIY costumes can be made using Amazon Smile boxes (get it now? ) and crafting supplies that you probably already have lying around your house.

Or, if you don’t, simply place an order and use the box it comes in!

Slice of Cake byKathy Cano-Murillo

Kathy Cano-Murillo, founder of Crafty Chica, designed this boxtume to be adapted to your favorite frosted cake. In her how-to, you’ll learn how to turn a Smile Box into a slice of cake (triangle or square) and get tips for decorating it to look like any flavor you want. Whether you’re a seven-layer chocolate addict or a birthday cake kinda girl, this costume will be a smash.

UnicornBy Jen Hadfield

Jen Hadfield of Tatertots Jello made this mythical creature using craft paint, yarn, and ribbon. She even provides a template for the unicorn’s head if you don’t want to risk drawing it yourself. Hadfield presents this as a children’s costume, but you can easily turn it into an adult costume by using a bigger box.

Race Car by Oh Happy Day

Racing to come up with a costume last minute? The team at the design and lifestyle site Oh Happy Day designed this speed racer boxtume. Inspired by the signature vintage Fiat, this little car can work for children and adults (just cut to size). Use classic red paint and shiny mirror board to make the accents as realistic as possible.
