Seemingly overnight, good ol’ fashioned tie-dye – beloved by arts-and-crafts enthusiasts at summer camp and generations of Deadheads alike – is back on the trend circuit in a big way. Thanks to offerings from high end labels like Gucci, Proenza Schouler and The Elder Statesman, as well as cult favorite indie brand Online Ceramics (which is making the impossible-to-get tees for Dead & Company’s current tour), the DIY, psychedelic style just might replace the Hawaiian shirt as the season’s must-have item – particularly among fans of “dad fashion.”
While my recent vintage discovery was a very good start to my growing collection (and this T-shirt a solid addition), it’s also left me a bone to pick with my Grateful Dead-worshiping dad, who has an oil painting of Jerry Garcia hanging in his den, but not a single tie-dyed concert memento for me to steal. Let this be a lesson to you youngsters: Be very careful before you part with your #merch.
Solid & Striped + Re/Done Venice tie-dyed T-shirt, $130, available here.
