Adele has FINALLY released a first listen to her new track

After almost six years (and countless lockdowns that felt that long), Adele has given us a first listen to her new track, and it’s as beautiful as expected.

The singer has dropped a 21-second snippet of the single, named Easy On Me, across her social channels, and it contains many of the things we love about her. We see her iconic spiky-shellacked fingernails, her heavy winged eyeliner and – best of all – a beautiful piano melody that we assume can only be the song’s introduction.

The video is edited into black and white, seeing Adele driving along a country road in a car with a load of luggage attached to the back. She’s playing a tape of her track (admirably retro) on the car’s sound system, and her destination is left pretty ambiguous. Obviously, we can’t wait to see and hear more.

Easy On Me will be released on 15 October, but the question is this – what about her next album? There have been many hints.

In the last few days, projections and billboards of the number 30 have been found around major monuments such as Buckingham Palace, the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building.

Adele soon added further info to her social channels, all but confirming that her new album will be named 30.

It’s been a long time coming. The British musician reportedly returned to the studio at the end of 2020, after spending the year writing new material with Rick Nowels, who co-wrote Why Do You Love Me on her last album, 25.

Former Pearl Jam drummer Matt Chamberlain let slip about Adele’s top-secret recording session in London gushing about how goddamn incredible she sounded.

“I just got to work on some new music for Adele,” he told The Eddie Trunk podcast on SiriusXM this week. “To hear that voice in my headphones was getting me chills.

“It was just so powerful and emotive. You know her voice, but to be across the room from somebody doing that, it’s just insane. You hear it on the radio and whatever and you go, ‘Yeah, it’s really good,’ but to be in the room with these people and feel that energy, it’s just so heavy. ”

There’s been plenty for Adele to reflect on, too (and we’re not talking about Covid-19). When she turned 31 back in 2019, the Hello hitmaker said that 30 had “tried her so hard” but that she was “owning it and trying her hardest to lean into it all. ”

It was confirmed that Adele had split from husband Simon Konecki, the father of her son Angelo, the following month and for almost a year, the musician has kept a characteristically low profile.

That was until her hilarious stint presenting Saturday Night Live in America. Then, came the final confirmation that new music was off the cards in 2020 as she signed off for the year, declaring: “I’m going back to my cave now to be the (single) cat lady that I am. Peace out til next year. ”
