6 Pairs of Underwear You’ll Actually Want to Wear

Panties that ride up, twist and turn, or bury themselves between your cheeks? No thanks! These days, when it comes to underwear, women are choosing function over fashion.

Recent reports show that consumers have become more demanding in terms of the quality and comfort of their undergarments. Makes sense, considering we wear them every day – or do we? According to Statistica, consumers are looking for new functions like elastics, moisture-wicking materials, and seamless styles. “The shift in intimates has been huge,” says stylist Jenny Altman who specializes in intimates.

“The idea is for every woman to look and, most importantly, feel her best. This is why Victoria Secret has lost so much of their dominance in the market. Real women do not aspire to be ‘Angels. ’”

Sure, there’s still a time and place for sexy lingerie, but the clothing you’re wearing every day doesn’t require a teeny-tiny thong. “Women tend to think that thongs are the go-to undergarment for leggings, jeans, and knit dresses, but underwear that offers fuller coverage actually hides so much better under clothes,” says Altman.

She recommends opting for a bikini cut or boy short, because the hemline hits right in the crease of your tush and leg where it won’t be seen. Aside from cut, she also says to look for a pair that is seamless or made with as few seams as possible. “Some are made with their only seam up the rear, which remains hidden because you already have a natural seam there. ”

So, forget lacey thongs! Keep scrolling for six pairs of underwear you’ll actually want to wear.

Wacoal. B-Smooth Seamless Bikini ($15; nordstrom. com)

No VPL here! As the name implies, this brief is seamless and comes with a wide, flat waistband (another must, says Altman). Its stretchy material shapes to your body for a fit that’s comfortable from office to gym.

Fruit of the Loom Breathable Micro Mesh Bikini ($10 for 4; target. com)

This newbie from Fruit of the Loom is getting rave reviews. “These are hands down the most conformable panties I own … Very ‘low profile’ and can be worn with most leggings,” reads one. The micro-mesh fabric offers airy coverage while the soft leg- and waistbands practically disappear under clothes.

SKIN Hadlee Hipster Panties ($38; nordstrom. com)

Seriously, these are like second skin. Made with organic cotton, they are ideal for both your sensitive skin and your vagina. Plus, the functional fit works with your body – not against – so there’s no pinching or pulling.

Calvin Klein Invisibles Hipster ($13; bloomingdales. com)

The construction of this weightless boy short features the rear seam that Altman recommends above and one down each side for an undie that’s nearly invisible.

Cosabella Aire Hotpant ($27; saks. com)

Another breathable micro-mesh material, these sheer panties are completely seamless and lay flat on the body without rolling.

Lively The All-Day Bikini ($10; wearlively. com)

Lively, considered athleisure for lingerie, touts a “moves-with-you-fit. ” That’s thanks to the soft, stretchy material and small yet secure seams.
