26 On-Trend Frill-Hem Pants That Are Surprisingly Wearable

When bell-bottoms took the spotlight at the beginning of 2017, we werent exactly surprised: The 70s trend had been going strong for a few seasons in the form of maxi-dresses and fringe, so it was only a matter of time.

But after the bell-bottom came the kick-crop flare, which was particularly polarizing, if only because there are very few trends that aim to shorten the legs and highlight the ankles.

And while it seems like the natural progression of the crop flare would be an even higher hem, it turns out designers ditched the idea and turned to a new sartorial accoutrement, instead: frill-hems. Aussie cool-girl brand Ellery ignited the trend with its trademark extreme flare trouser, which is fitted through the thigh and dilates at the knee, giving way to a flowy silhouette thats practically made for a sashay.

Sure, they sound extra, but most frill-hem pant are generally unassuming and easy to wear. While some iterations are bold (theres nothing understated about a tassel-hem), others are decidedly subtle. Think: a matching lace trim underlay peeking out from a straight-leg trouser, or a simple cuff that caps off a tailored pant — both of which can be paired with a ribbed tee, or even a structured blazer if you want to play with proportions.

Because the trend is officiallyeverywhere for spring, we found 26 frill-hem pants to shop before they sell out. Our favorites, ahead.
