25 WFH essentials to make non-stop Zoom meetings more bearable

However, for better or worse, working from home is likely to be a part of our lives for the foreseeable future, in some form or another. So it’s best that we are prepared, whether it’s learning how to fix your posture after long days at the kitchen table, or taking care to avoid mental burnout.

Our wardrobes have also started to adapt as we find ourselves living in a mixture of loungewear and tracksuits, and yet many of us still find ourselves working from a makeshift space, scrambling for the solitary pen in the flat on a daily basis. But, no more – with our list of working from home essentials, it’ll be like having your own private WeWork. Get ready to be productive.

Just a few short weeks ago, many of us had slowly started to return to working in the office – but thanks to Coronavirus and Lockdown 2. 0, it’s back to work from home life. And whilst we won’t pretend that we’re missing the commute (hello extra hour in bed! ), #WFH life isn’t without its challenges. Whether you find yourself working alongside your partner, trying to juggle Zoom meetings when the kids are home, or in a flat share that keeps you working from bed most days, we never actually realised the perks of going in to an office.

Remember the gossip sessions with your work wife? And the morning Pret coffee you kept promising to stop indulging in? Oh, and not having to stare at your own face for 8 hours a day on Zoom?

We’ve already rounded up the best desks for small spaces, the best desk chairs, best fans and best indoor plants for boosting your wellbeing. But, we thought it time to compile everything into one place.

Whatever your living situation, our list of working from home essentials has you covered. If you’re one of the lucky few with space to spare, treat yourself to a new desk like this incredibly chic geometric design from John Lewis + Swoon – that looks good, as well as being functional – and an actual office chair (in pink velvet obvs). Investing in an ergonomically designed chair like this, will do wonders for your back and neck, even if you find yourself working from the kitchen table. Complete your setup with a stylish desk lamp (very much needed in winter) and clock (so you avoid the urge to constantly check your phone) and you’ll immediately feel more organised and able to focus.

That’s not to say you need a full #WFH space to get ahead of the game at work. This laptop stand is made to fit over your sofa arm allowing you to get productive even from the couch, or go for a ‘lap laptop desk’ – perfect for video call free days, where you decide your bed = your office.

And speaking of beds, when getting up to start the day feels impossible, we can’t think of anything more ‘essential’ when working from home than your own coffee machine. Yes, we miss that cute barista, but homemade coffee in a chic mug, when working (still in your pyjamas) is pretty hard to beat

And whilst some might consider a few items on our list more ‘nice to have’ than essential, we’re going to defend their place, because we’re all much more productive when we have the right tools at our disposal. Like this desk organiser to keep our messy papers in check and this cute iridescent weekly planner to keep ourselves too, in check. An air purifier will ensure you’re breathing clear, odourless air which helps when getting out for fresh air isn’t possible. And the scented soy candle and pot plant? Well, they’re essential to our mental health when the broadband stops working again.
