The duplex located directly below President Trump’s midtown triplex in Trump Tower is currently up for sale—and it’s raising more than a few eyebrows and concerns. The unit, which stands at 6,100 square feet and spans the entire south-facing portion of two stories of the tower, includes five bedroom suites and is on the market for $24.5 million. According to the New York Post, it directly adjoins the president’s own gilded apartment, and most problematically, likely his private bedroom. One of the primary concerns about the newly available unit is that it could pose a security risk given that the president frequently returns to and resides in the home.
“What is to stop the Chinese or the Russians from buying the apartment under a front, and then drilling spy holes in the ceiling to listen to the conversations and goings-on?” an unnamed source was quoted as asking in the paper.
In order to legally block possible security threats given the on-sale unit, however, the board would need to buy the apartment itself. Another possibility would be for White House Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow to suggest the country—a.k.a. taxpayer dollars—buy the unit for security reasons.
The duplex currently consists of modern, contemporary interiors with oversize floor-to-ceiling windows that provide views of the Manhattan skyline, as well as clean white walls and 14-foot-plus ceilings. Of the five bedroom suites, the master bedroom is perhaps the most impressive, with dual master bathrooms and dressing rooms. Other amenities in the building include a 24-hour doorman and concierge, a luxury fitness center, and valet and maid service.
Donald Trump’s own unit, which has been photographed plenty of times, consists of over-the-top gilded and mirrored walls and ceilings, coupled with lavish furniture and decor.
