We all know Serena Williams for her unmatched athletic ability, but her husband Alexis Ohanian wants to make sure that we all know she is an incredible mother as well.
On Monday, he surprised the tennis star with four billboards of their 5-month-old daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr. Together, they read: “Greatest Momma Of All Time. Serena Williams G. M. O. A. T. ” Talk about a romantic gesture.
The billboards line the I-10 in Palm Springs, CA, just 25 miles from where she will participate in the WTA Tour at the Indian Wells Masters, which is scheduled to begin on March 8. After taking time off during her pregnancy and skipping the Australian Open four months after giving birth, these signs are meant to welcome Williams, who has 23 Grand Slam titles, back to the game.
Although the tennis pro had a relatively smooth pregnancy, she recently revealed that she suffered postpartum complications following an emergency C-section.
Her C-section wound was ripped open from coughing spells caused by a pulmonary embolism, and when she returned to surgery, doctors found that a large hematoma had inundated her abdomen. It took six weeks of bed rest to recover, she recalls.
“These just went up on alongside I-10 into Palm Springs,” Ohanian wrote on Instagram. “Olympia Ohanian I wanted to welcome her back to tennis. Designed them myself, with some help from Jr. #GMOAT”
“Now that I’m 36 and I look at my baby, I remember that this was also one of my goals when I was little, before tennis took over, when I was still kind of a normal girl who played with dolls,” Williams told Vogue in January.
