Selena Gomez is seeking treatment after having an “emotional breakdown” and has returned to a mental health facility after being hospitalised twice in two weeks.
It was reported by TMZ she first went to Cedars-Sinai hospital the last week in September as a result of a low white blood cell count, which can be a side effect for kidney transplant patients.
Sources told TMZ she was “despondent and emotional” and stayed for a number of days before being released.
However she was “readmitted late last week because her low blood cell count persisted, and it threw Selena into a downward emotional spiral. ”
During her second visit, the singer suffered a panic attack. “She has had a tough few weeks and the panic attack in the hospital was the tipping point,” a source tells PEOPLE.
“She realised she needed to seek additional help for her ongoing emotional issues. She’s surrounded by close family and has a lot of support. She’s doing better now and is seeking treatment on the East Coast. ”
She’s receiving DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), a treatment used for various mental health conditions at a psychiatric facility on the East Coast.
The news comes a few weeks after she announced she’s taking a break from social media.
She said: “As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given. Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember – negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi. ”

“Depression and anxiety was the forefront of everything I did in my life, every single thing. ”
In September, her on/off boyfriend of eight years Justin Bieber reportedly married Hailey Baldwin.
Selena revealed a year ago that due to lupus complications, she’d received a kidney transplant from her best friend Francia Raisa over the summer.
Selena opened up about the process during an interview with Today in October 2017.
She said: “My kidneys were just done. That was it, and I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life. ”
GLAMOUR UK has contacted a spokesperson for Selena and is awaiting response.
