Michelle Obama Wore a Very Cool Denim Jacket While Hosting College Signing Day

Lover of liberty and former First Lady Michelle Obama hosted the 2018 edition of College Signing Day at Temple University in Philadelphia on Wednesday, celebrating the incoming Class of 2022.

Mrs. Obama started College Signing Day — which has long been a tradition for recruited athletes announcing the school to which theyve committed — in 2014, maintaining her involvement in the event even after leaving the White House.

This year, those students Mrs. Obama — who herself attended Princeton University as an undergraduate — first spotlighted during College Signing Days inaugural bash are now graduating, and its time to welcome a new slew of bright, soon-to-be freshmen into the fold.

For the occasion, Mrs. Obama wore a layered denim peplum jacket courtesy of Alexander McQueen; its very cool — an optical illusion, almost! — and is somehow still available for purchase on Net-a-Porter (if youre willing to drop $1,995 for it). She wore it with a pair of high-waisted, button-front black skinny jeans and wedge sandals, both of which fantastically allowed for her to dance on-stage with “Empire” star Jussie Smollett — the fruits of which you can see in a widely-shared video, below.

Denim is, of course, an all-American staple, and a fabric Mrs. Obama often incorporated into her famously accessible First Lady wardrobe for more casual functions. Now that shes left the East Wing, however, shes been wearing jeans (and in this case, jean jackets) more and more, a trend we hope will continue as she transitions back into civilian life.

Since its inception in 2014, College Signing Day has expanded to include 2,000 rallies across the country; meanwhile, yesterdays event featured celebrity cameos from the likes of fellow Generation Z-ers Zendaya, Camila Cabello and more.

Congratulations, graduates!
