Jeremy Scott Teams Up With MAC For ’90s-Inspired Capsule Collection

Jeremy Scott, Moschino creative director and patron saint of all things kitsch, is teaming up with MAC for a capsule collection that’s making us want to dance – literally.

Described in a press release as “manic color for eyes, lips, and cheeks,” the collection includes a boombox-shaped eyeshadow palette, blush and highlighter that looks like a CD, and a lip compact that takes the form of a cassette tape. Do half the people this is being marketed to even know what a cassette tape is? Who knows!

The collab, which will hit MAC shelves on February 8, was announced yesterday, with Scott writing on Instagram: “So excited to announce that I have created with MAC a boombox shaped eyeshadow palette consisting of 29 shades, a lip palette shaped like a tape cassette with a mirror, and a lil something for the cheeks in the form of a CD! ”

Scott is known for drawing on popular culture in his collections for both Moschino and his eponymous label. In fact, for a man who’s brought the likes of Spongebob, Barbie, and McDonald’s to the runway (not to mention created and soldthis dress), a ’90s hip-hop inspired makeup collection actually seems kind of tame. That being said, it’s still his first beauty drop, so who knows what’s to come down the line.

Scott cites music as a source of inspiration for him when designing, telling Vogue: “I love how music can take a room and alter it. ” And his muse for the collab? Frances Bean Cobain, fittingly. Apparently, Scott was hanging with her at Sundance when he watched her pull a colossalpalette from her purse to do a quick touch-up. “I was like, ‘I just want to tell you, I have a giant palette coming for you to replace that thing you were carrying. This is an actual cute item that you can pull out of your purse and make people gag and still get all your colors. ’”

Prices will range from $35 for the lip and cheek palettes to $75 for the eyeshadow. Pricey, but how often can you claim you did your makeup with a boombox?
