I tried a natural-alternative, to retinol and woke, up with the best skin of my life

A new addition to Ole Henriksen’s star lineup, Goodnight Glow contains the hero ingredient ‘bakuchiol’, a newly discovered, plant-based retinol alternative.

The potent cream is said to be just as good (if not better) than retinol, targeting lines, wrinkles and dark spots. It also contains AHAs to gently exfoliate skin overnight and boost glow.

BEAUTY BIO:

I’m 27 years old and just starting to experience the first signs of ageing, particularly crow’s feet around the eye area and lacklustre skin. I’ve been putting off introducing retinol into my routine (desperately clinging onto my youth) and thought this could be a nice way to ease myself in.

OLE HENRIKSEN GOODNIGHT GLOW™ RETIN-ALT SLEEPING CREME:

I am such a sucker for pastels and when I opened this cream and saw it was lilac in colour, I was so ready to slather it all over my face.

But being a total retinol virgin I was all like, will it hurt? Sting a little? Make my face fall off? Scared and alone, I held my breath and went for it. And you know what? It was incredibly soothing.

Despite looking like a rich cream in the pot, I found it almost gel-like and it melted into my skin leaving no greasy residue whatsoever. If, like me, you hate suffocating your skin and waking up with a dank pillowcase, you’ll be pleased to know this cream is none of those things. It smells nice, but not overly fragranced and is more like a shot of freshness rather than a heavy extra layer. I slept easy knowing I was unlikely to wake up with a spot in the morning.

Fast forward to morning, and you’re going to think I’m totally full of sh*t, but my skin looked like I’d had a facial. It looked so damn glowy and as I gave it a quick wake-up rinse with water, I could feel how smooth the texture was. It was such a dream surface to apply makeup on that day and I looked so dewy and fresh (if I do say so myself).

Asda has launched the first-ever supermarket retinol for £10

I honestly did not expect to see such an instant change and was blown away. Regular retinol takes about four weeks of rigorous application to see results, but after just one application of Goodnight Glow I can honestly say my skin was transformed. I don’t know how the hell bakuchiol works, but I’m now a big believer in this ingredient.

FINAL VERDICT:

I’ve now been using this product for 2-3 months and each time I use it, it’s just as good as the first time. I don’t use it every single night, because I’m scared it will dampen the dramatic results, but it’s a solid every 2-3 evenings or whenever my skin is just looking blergh.

The fact I can get my hit of AHAs from this product, as well as some extra anti-ageing goodness, has got me going back to it again and again.
