The video shows a woman clutching her perfectly lovely stomach with shame and disgust, then being handed a roll of cling film. She wraps it around her middle and then stands in her underwear, looking happier with herself. Then of course there’s your standard before-and-after shot, showing that she has a slightly flatter tummy once she’s been wrapped up like a piece of chicken.
A horrendous Facebook page dedicated to “chubby girl clothing hacks” has had major backlash online for telling women to wrap their stomachs in cling film as a DIY alternative to Spanx.
Obviously, people are not pleased. This is demeaning, impractical and body-shaming. Rather than sweating underneath layers of cling film, what about, I don’t know, accepting your body as it is?
As one Facebook user commented, “the best hack is self-love”. Amen to that.
Meanwhile, others voiced their outrage in the video’s comments. “This is just insulting,” wrote one. “If this is not the ultimate body shame… the only hack I found useful was the powder on my inner thigh to prevent chafing… otherwise I’ll pass on this one,” said another.
Another woman wrote, quite correctly: “Just be proud of yourselves. Beauty, figure, looking perfect is not everything.”
Basically, life’s too short to wrap yourself in cling film and it’s just not on for anyone to tell women they should. It’s an absolute NOPE from us.
