Fidget spinners, the trendy toy constructed to spin between your fingertips, became famed in 2017 as an outlet for bored or nervous energy. In fact, many makers of the gadget now market it as therapy for non-neurotypical conditions like ADHD and autism.
But unlike stress balls or dammit dolls, the fidget spinner became adopted primarily by kids. It’s a toy. An adult playing with a spinner in a corporate meeting or while presenting to his or her peers can expect to receive some serious side-eye.
Still, anxiety disorders affect about 40 million American adults, and adults with ADHD are more likely to have anxiety. Dawne McGregor, designer of Love Dawne in Pennsylvania, handcrafts jewelry to serve a purpose: to provide a sensory experience that helps relieve stress and encourages focus. Her collection of fidget rings and necklaces serve as an innocuous alternative to nail biting, tapping, doodling, and even mindless smartphone scrolling.
“Through intensive market research, I realized there were numerous designers out there making stylish and functional products for individuals with disabilities,” says Alexandra Connell, founder of Patti + Ricky, an ecommerce site dedicated to curating goods for people of all abilities. “I wanted to create a shopping destination that makes it easier for people shopping for stylish products that fit a certain need to find them. ” Love Dawne was a natural fit.

Each piece in the collection is made to order with sterling silver, 14k yellow gold, and rose gold components. According to the site, craftsman will make appropriate adjustments for the spinner beads to fit properly.
