The latest in a growing list of offbeat Los Angeles attractions is what would happen if Candy Land, Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, and the Museum of Ice Cream all had a very sweet baby. It’s called Candytopia and it comes from Jackie Sorkin, a candy stylist (yes, it’s a real job!) and the star of TLC’s Candy Queen. Described as a “deliciously fun interactive experience,” Candytopia will open in L.A. on December 15, and tickets are already on sale. Given the success of similarly interactive and photogenic attractions like the aforementioned Museum of Ice Cream, we recommend buying ASAP.
Sorkin’s catering and event production company, Hollywood Candy Girls, specializes in all things sweet (think: candy, chocolate, dessert bars, and all the confections you can imagine), and services events of all sizes all over the globe —she even works on celebrity events, collaborating with well-known charity organizations and celebs like the Kardashians.
The Candy Queen told Los Angeles Magazine that her latest project at L.A. Hangar Studios is “an entirely new, sugary world of awesomeness.” She continues: “Now more than ever, who doesn’t need an escape from reality? Candytopia is about unconventional fun, breaking a rule or two, and having a fantastically yummy time.” Sign us and our sweet tooths up!
Unlike Wonka’s surreal (and might we add, completely fictional) world, which featured the ultimate interactive element —edible everything— Sorkin’s displays are to be looked at and not licked. Alas, there remains a crumb of satisfying hope: “However, as you stroll, skip, play, jump, and twirl your way through Candytopia, you will be treated to samples of many different types of candy to enhance your experience,” Sorkin says. “From sours and gummies to chocolate, nostalgic favorites, and more, there will be no candy shortages happening in Candytopia. We promise!”
Candytopia is open to people of all ages. And while tickets to this IRL Wonka world aren’t cheap ($30 for adults, $23 for children under 12), we have a feeling they’ll be well worth it.
