Beauty Resolutions the Pros Are Making In 2018

If making a New Year’s resolution still seems daunting more than a week into the year, don’t stress. There are plenty of things you can begin doing that don’t require a complete lifestyle overhaul. Not to mention, some of the best resolutions are all about pampering yourself.

To show you what we mean, we talked to makeup, hair, skin, and nail experts about the beauty resolutions that they are planning to carry out in the months ahead. Reading what the pros are up to may just inspire you to make a belated resolution of your own, because seriously, what’s better than going into next year looking – and feeling – prettier than ever?

The Resolution: Make washing my face a priority

“I tell all my patients – and even the media – that washing your face before bed is one of the most important things you can do in your skin care routine. But what is the wise old saying? Do as I say, not as I do, right? I, just like all of you out there, sometimes get too tired or forget to wash my face at night before bed. But we know that dirt, oil, and particulate matter from pollution in the environment accumulate on the surface of skin leading to inflammation, acne breakouts, and even premature aging.

My skin tends to be on the oily side, so I like a foaming cleanser for a more effective cleanse, and my go-to product for the New Year is Dove Deep Pure Face Wash. Skin oil and hydration are separate issues, so it’s important to choose a gentle, soap-free cleanser that won’t strip skin of essential oils and won’t disrupt the barrier,” says Joshua Zeichner, MD, a top dermatologist and director of cosmetic and clinical research in the department of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

The Resolution: Go natural with my routine

“My goal for 2018 is to go completely all-natural with my beauty and self-care routine. My first step is tackling the color cosmetics, and I know it’s going to be hard to give up some of my most beloved shades, but I’ve had a success in other realms so far. I’m using Tata Harper moisturizers and masks, and Zoya, Deborah Lippmann, and other 5-free nail polishes. I also switched out my deodorant to Consonant Dealkalizing Deodorant. It smells amazing… and hopefully I will, too,” says Miss Pop, a New York City-based editorial manicurist

The Resolution: Treat my hair to a weekly mask

“The winter is very drying on hair. The dry air takes needed moisture out of the hair, plus we tend to use damaging heated appliances more in the this time of year, so putting back what is missing is so important. Hair Food Moisture Maskis great for this as it will replenish moisture, seal the cuticle, and give added shine, while helping remove static from the hair,” says Rebekah Forecast, celebrity hairstylist for Hair Food

The Resolution: Get regular facials

“My 2018 resolution is to get a great facial at least once a month – one that’s done by an awesome person who gets what my skin needs. It’s the best for aging gracefully without looking too ‘done,’and it enables the skin to be healthy and more firm in a natural way through massage, micro-current, or gentle peels,” says Tina Turnbow, a celebrity makeup artist

The Resolution: Highlight my favorite feature more

“Everyone has a signature feature, some part of their face or body that really stands out as beautiful or unique. I believe that mine is my lips. So, in 2018, I want to highlight my signature feature more, perhaps with a bold red or coral gloss, or a plumping sugar scrub. One way or another, I want to show the world what my pout it all about,” says Mona Gohara MD, a top dermatologist and associate clinical professor of the department of dermatology at Yale University

The Resolution: Give my scalp a little more TLC (and get organized, too! )

“Investing in my hair by maintaining a routine with products formulated to deal with the health of the scalp. This helps keep the hair manageable, healthy, and strong. Also, to simplify my beauty routine by doing a quarterly clean out of my beauty closet every three months and only keeping my essentials,” says Sunnie Brook Jones, a celebrity stylist for Head Shoulders.

The Resolution: Get social

“Every day this year, I’m going live on my Instagram to show lots of new hair tutorials and sneak peaks behind the scenes of my job,” says Sarah Potempa, celebrity hairstylist and founder of The Beachwaver Co.
