Just as we reported on lilac eyeshadow becoming a trend in spring, Pinterest have revealed that searches for purple eyeshadow on the platform have gone up by 52 per cent, so there are lots of other people seeking out this new beauty buzz too.
While Instagram makeup artists make it look easy to choose six different shades and blend them to create a flawless look while choosing a bright colour yourself might seem terrifying. And, of course, there is always the danger that you’ll end up looking like you’ve got a black eye.
But panic not, brands like Glossier, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and Huda are all adding lots of hues of purple to their palettes. Plus applied properly, purple not only suits all skin colours but it makes your eyes look brighter too.
And of course the Pantone colour of 2018 was Ultra Violet – so once you gain your confidence, then work up to applying a really dramatic purple look.
Hollywood makeup artist, Jillian Dempsey, says: “Lilac works very well on pale skin tones. I’d like to say it’s the new taupe. ”
Makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes created the hashtag #biglilacenergy for her purple-loving looks. She likes to swipe glossy, pastel purple shadow across her lids.
She says to start getting used to the colour you should try a winged-out liner using eyeshadow.
Katie says that pretty much any pastel or medium-tone purple eyeshadow will work.
She achieves her glossy Instagram finish by using a clear lip gloss.
Lighter skin tones can stay in the range of soft colours, while people with medium and deep skin tones can pick from light to deep shades.
She warns that too-light pastels can look ashy on medium skin tone.

To try a jewel-toned purple look, Tasha Reiko Brown recommends a cream eyeshadow on your eyelids like Maybelline’s Vintage Plum.
Give it a minute to set, and then dab a tiny squeeze of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream above your iris to bring light to your lids. Finish the look with a sweeping of peach blusher which will leave you looking fresh.
Look sophisticated with a gentle wash of warm lavender or you can increase the intensity of the look with cool pastel shades.
Of course, once you get used to the shade, you can experiment and get more adventurous with darker and more outrageous shades or even add glitter for a bolder look.
