A Closer Look at Meghan Markle’s Engagement Ring From Prince Harry

Earlier today, in an official statement from Kensington Palace, the highly-anticipated engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was announced.

Not long after, the couple stepped out at the Sunken Gardens at Kensington Palace for an official photocall where they answered questions from reporters, posed for photographs, and showed off Markle’s sparkly new diamond ring from the “romantic” proposal.

The gold ring is made up of three diamonds with one large stone in the center and two smaller stones on the sides. According to People, Prince Harry designed the engagement ring himself, and it has a lot of sentimental value: The two outside stones are from his late mother Princess Diana’s personal collection, while the larger stone that sits in the center is from Botswana, a country in Africa that the royal travels to often.

The ring was crafted by British jewelers Cleave and Company, the jewelers to the prince’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth.

The wedding of Prince Harry, who is fifth in line to the British throne, and Markle, an American actress most known for her role in Suits, will be held in Spring 2018.

More details about the engagement and the upcoming royal wedding will be announced later today during a BBC interview. Until then, here’s a closer look at the awe-inspiring ring.
