Stretching an epic eight days, Paris Fashion Week was the place to single out the standout trends for Fall 2018. Some wed seen before in New York, London and Milan — and others were brand new.
From show to show, a general sense of the fashion industrys overarching mood could be detected: Designers are reacting to the #MeToo movement and todays volatile political climate by creating clothes to protect, empower and comfort women.
Before we wrap up our show coverage for the season, lets take a look at what youll be wearing from Paris come Fall.
80s Power Women
From prom to punk, the eighties are back in a major way for Fall 2018. Following in the footsteps of Milan, Parisian designers looked to the bygone era for inspiration: Nina Ricci and Louis Vuitton made clothes for badass businesswomen, while Andreas Kronthaler pulled from Vivienne Westwoods earlier archives.
Headwear
Headwear remained a critical trend in Paris, and there was something for every occasion: Next season youll find us marching for womens rights in Christian Dior, sunbathing in Jacquemus and sitting out an apocalypse in Maison Margiela.
High Shine
Dont delete the KiraKira App just yet, because youll need it to filter all the shiny outfits youll be wearing next season. Iridescent and glitzy details were on just about every runway in the French capital, but Balmain takes home the prize for being the most sparkly.
Plaid
As seen in London and Versaces blowout show in Milan, plaid of all kinds will be working its way into your wardrobe come Fall 2018. Throwback to the 90s in a Clueless-style yellow hue à la Carven or opt for a more classic Loewe look.
Protective Layers
Multi-layer looks at Balenciaga and Yohji Yamamoto, amongst others, felt like the most obvious reaction to the soberness of living in the Trump-slash-Brexit era. The thinking behind the trend: The more layers, the more protection offered from rogue politicians and natural catastrophes.
Romantic Dresses
On the opposite end of the spectrum, flowing dresses proved another big hit with designers in Paris. Naturally, houses with a predilection for romance came out on top here. Read: Valentino, Elie Saab and Giambattista Valli.
Security Blankets
The security blanket trend has made the circuit of all four Fashion Weeks. For the fourth and final installment, Stella McCartney and newly relaunched fashion house Poiret delivered original takes on the theme.
Wild Cats
Fearless women (and men) are going to love the wild cat trend. Claire Waight Kellers second Givenchy showing made a case for classic leopard, while young designer Koché offered a lilac option for spirited cool kids.
