26 Pairs of Flatform Sandals in Which to Relive the ’90s
They say trends come back around every 20 years, and one prime example is platform, or flatform, sandals: They made their groovy debut in the ’70s, returned in a very timely ugly-chic way in the ’90s, and now they’re back again — in more iterations than ever.
As trends often do, their return began on the runway with brands like Gucci, Miu Miu, Chloé and Marni offering some pricer options, and trickled down to more affordable levels. Although, a couple of OG flatform brands are taking part in the style’s return: Steve Madden’s slinky slides and Rocket Dog’s platform flip flops can now be found again at trendy retailers like Urban Outfitters and ASOS.
Whether you’re looking for the exact sandals you wore in middle school, a pair of statement-making Gucci numbers, or something more understated, you’ll find it in the gallery below. Enjoy, but be careful: Our own Stephanie once sprained her ankle in a pair of Steve Maddens when she was nine.
